Some tips for tools, appliances or services I use a lot.

And which most people around me, as far as I know, don't use (yet : )

A text expander does exactly what you expect it do. It automatically replaces abbreviations with frequently used phrases and corrects common typo's or misspellings. It works across your whole operating system, unlike for instance the autocorrect feature in Microsoft Word.

The expander I use is aText, which is available for Windows and MacOS. It comes with standard autocorrect dictionaries for specific languages (e.g. "teh" is corrected into "the"). These entries can be removed individually, which you might need, e.g. in case TEH is a common abbreviation in your field.

Next to the standard dictionaries, you can define your own abbreviations for phrases you frequently use.

  • Sync via OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

  • Date and time calculation

  • Capital correction
